About Me
I'm a software engineer with a background in mechanical design engineering. My journey into software development began in 2020 when I left my job to teach myself to code. I've since worked at PortF, a fintech startup, where I've worn many hats and contributed to every aspect of our portfolio management platform.

My Journey
From Mechanical Engineering to Software Development
I started my career as a Mechanical Design Engineer at Atlas Copco, designing bespoke industrial compressor systems for clients in oil & gas and defense. In 2020, I decided to pursue my passion for software engineering and left my job to teach myself coding. Rather than attending a bootcamp or university, I embarked on an intensive self-study journey while supporting myself as a self-employed handyman. Needless to say, this was not an easy journey and I had to work harder than most to get where I am today.
Professional Growth
In 2022, I joined PortF as a Software Engineer when the company was still a small startup of just 5 people. I've been heavily involved in building all major aspects of the company's portfolio management platform, working across the entire stack and wearing many hats as the company has grown. Our product has been successfully adopted by major clients including the Scottish National Investment Bank.
My Professional Interests
It's my passion to build products which automate processes which are tedious and time consuming. I've seen first hand how much time is wasted on non-value adding tasks when working in a large scale engineering company. I think it would be really cool to have products which can get rid of these tasks so people can focus on the stuff which really adds value.
Additionally, I've never been able to shake my mechanical engineering roots so I'm interested in the intersection of software and hardware. Especially on big engineering projects.

Beyond Coding
Sports & Outdoor Activities
I've always had a passion for sports and outdoor activities. I've played rugby at a high level, enjoying the combination of physical challenge and team strategy that the sport offers.
Beyond the rugby pitch, I've pursued adventures in different environments. I'm a qualified PADI Divemaster, allowing me to guide others in exploring the underwater world. I'm also a BASI certified snowboard instructor, spending time on the slopes teaching and perfecting my own technique.
Connecting
I'm always open to connecting with like-minded professionals and exploring new opportunities. Feel free to reach out if you'd like to discuss potential collaborations or just have a chat about technology.
